#28 — Dawn
COMPOSED BY KRISTIN KIRK & PREMIERED BY CELLIST TIMOTHEOS PETRIN, INSPIRED BY TIMOTHEOS PETRIN’S PAINTING “DAWN”
“Inspiration to my painting Dawn came to me five years ago while I was a student in Philadelphia. Back then, there were long periods of time where I was homesick. I was thinking of all the blissful and carefree experiences I had while growing up in my home country of Greece. My family has a house in the countryside of Greece where I spent some of the best moments of my childhood. It is a beautiful place away from city lights in the middle of nowhere, so as you can imagine, the stars at night are incredibly bright and clear. As a kid, I loved lying down and watching the starry night sky while the first sunlight was breaking free behind the mountains in the horizon. I was in awe of the combination between the darkness of the night and the dark blue, indigo color of the first light. My painting portrays exactly that moment, the melting point between two days: the end of one day and the beginning of another.”
