#38 — Unnatural Air

COMPOSED & PREMIERED BY CELLIST NICHOLAS POLITI IN COLLABORATION WITH CHARLES STACEY, INSPIRED BY BRUCE HERMAN’S “NEXUS: WATERING HOLE”

“My painting “Nexus: Watering Hole” is one in a series of meditations on nature – the four medieval elements earth, air, fire, and water – and the mysterious fifth element (the “quintessence”) which holds everything together. This series grew out of a multi-year interaction with another artist (Makoto Fujimura), a composer (Christopher Theofanidis), a theologian (Jeremy Begbie) and the magnum opus epic poem of T. S. Eliot, Four Quartets.”

—Bruce Herman
