#13 — Controlled Explosion
COMPOSED BY MICHELLE LI & PREMIERED BY PIANIST SARAH CAHILL, INSPIRED BY DARRIL TIGHE'S PAINTING "CONTROLLED EXPLOSION."
“I did this painting at the beginning of this year 2020. It is the second new painting where I used enamel paint over a watercolor basis. The enamel paint is very dramatic and gives the painting a three dimensional aspect.
Unusual for me to incorporate a circle image in the middle. My emotions were very present while painting this, thus the black silver and red, the black drips and the watercolor gestures. The center was so powerful and explosive that I needed to contain them thus I used a green mixed with teale for the outside of the circle to contain the energy of the center.
I am very pleased with the combination of watercolor and enamel working together and will explore this more.”
