COMPOSED BY JESSE BRAULT & PREMIERED BY VIOLINIST STEPHEN WAARTS AND PIANIST JULIA HAMOS, INSPIRED BY JUNE YOKELL'S PAINTING "PARADISE LOST."

“Paradise Lost is based on a photograph that I took in 2015 while hiking in Novato, CA which is one of the small towns in Marin County, CA. Like all of the paintings that I do in which the painting is based on a photograph of a specific place, this one brought up a kind of mournful feeling in me which continued through the process. When I submitted the piece to Musaics of the Bay, I wasn’t really thinking about it being musical, but more was thinking that it evoked one of those evening gloaming feelings that bring the viewer to a more internal and reflective places, thus allowing a composer to respond not only to the place itself, but to some kind of lonely internal place.”
